The Mindset Shift That Took Me from Athlete to Entrepreneur
When you’re an athlete, everything is structured.
Practice times. Strength sessions. Coaches giving you feedback.
You live by a schedule and your progress is tracked constantly.
It’s intense, but it’s also clear.
Then I stepped into entrepreneurship.
And suddenly, there was no practice to show up for.
No coach to hold me accountable. No one checking my effort.
I had freedom, which also meant I had zero structure.
At first, I loved the freedom.
But quickly, I realized I was drifting. Wasting time. I needed a system.
So I went back to what I knew: training.
I started treating business the way I treated football.
I created routines. I blocked my time. I studied film, except now the “film” was podcasts, books, customer feedback.
I scheduled thinking time the same way I used to schedule recovery days.
Athletes are wired to get better. Every rep has purpose.
And when I applied that same approach to my business—everything changed.
I created a feedback loop.
I set goals the way I used to prep for a season.
I reviewed wins and losses.
I trained my mindset the way I trained my body.
The transition from athlete to entrepreneur wasn’t easy.
But once I made that mental switch from unstructured freedom to intentional repetition it clicked.
Whatever your background is, find the mindset that worked for you before.
Then apply it to what you’re doing now.
Structure isn’t a limitation. It’s an edge.
