The Hidden Advantage of Being Different
When you grow up being different, you have two choices:
Try to hide it
Figure out how to make it work for you.
For a long time, I thought I had to downplay my blindness.
I didn’t want to be known as the “blind kid” or have people treat me differently.
But no matter how hard I tried, I couldn’t avoid it.
Eventually, I realized something important, different isn’t bad.
Being different forces you to find a different way.
And that’s where the advantage kicks in.
Because while everyone else was walking the straight path, I was building my own.
The world is full of people trying to blend in.
They chase the same things, and wonder why they never stand out.
But standing out isn’t something you get to by playing it safe.
It comes from leaning into who you are.
Whether you’re building a business, leading a team, or just trying to navigate your own personal path your difference is your value.
Your story, your obstacles, your unique lens on the world that’s what makes you memorable.
That’s what connects you to others.
